Alex Lacquement & Amadou Kouyate
Come hear Baltimore's own Alex Lacquement and Amadou Kouyate as they share a night of two solo sets of imaginative and trance-inducing music. Alex (upright bass, guitar, & banjo) will be performing solo a variety of Bluegrass, Oldtime, Country songs, and instrumentals steeped in the Oldtime tradition with a modern twist. Amadou (kora & dejembe) a virtuoso will enchant you with sounds and songs from West Africa to Baltimore and in between. The two will also weave in a collaboration or two throughout the night. His tone is unmistakable. Alex was trained in Classical and Jazz music, but now he is know for his interesting twist and approach to playing oldtime, country, and swing music. Alex performs with Baltimore's Oldtime, Bluegrass, Irish fusion group Charm City Junction, Bumper Jacksons, Ken & Brad Kolodner, and Letitia VanSant. Amadou Kouyate is the 150th generation of the Kouyate family of Manding Diali (oral historians/musicians of West Africa). Amadou performs on the 21-string Kora, and rhythmic presentations on Djembe and Koutiro drums. His repertoire ranges from traditional songs from the 13th century to original compositions incorporating blues and jazz riffs. In addition to his solo work, Amadou performs with his world rock ensemble Proper SKANKS as well as with Farafina Kan, Manding Jata, Spank Rock, Urban Afrikan, The Kouyate Family/Memory of African Culture. http://www.itsamadou.com/ |
